Marine Missions on the Central Coast of British Columbia
The Missionaries

100_11_03 Rev. Thomas Crosby D.D. (n.d.) Originally from Ingersoll, Ontario, Crosby is perhaps the best known of British Columbia missionaries. Arriving in April of 1862, Crosby taught and ministered on both Vancouver Island and in the Fraser Valley, and, in 1871 became the first Methodist ordination in British Columbia. In 1874 Crosby and his wife were sent to take charge of the new mission at Port Simpson, and ten years later secured the first mission boat, a schooner-rigged steamer named Glad Tidings.
