Justice & Peace Ministry Team

This Team:

• Speaks on social issues such as the economy, health care, ministries with Native people, with children, with people who have special needs, environmental concerns;
• United Church Women, United Church Men, youth work, church camping (Koolaree and Rock Lake in our presbytery);
• Leadership training, workshop planning, resource fairs;
• Global concerns, including peace and disarmament, the Church's worldwide mission, justice for the Two-thirds world;
• Support for Naramata and VST.

Some of our activities

Global Concerns accomplishment at March 2009 meeting:

1. Petition completed and sent to our local MP to urge our federal government to implement the recommendations made at the Round table discussions over a year ago regarding the exploitation of Canadian Mining Companies abroad.
2. United for Peace Petition to urge our federal government to focus on peace building initiatives was also completed and sent to parliament.
3. Presbyters were registered (as 50) with Earth Hour which was advocated by KAIROS. Congratulations are in order for those who continued the business meeting with lights out for the hour!
