Sexual Abuse

The United Church of Canada developed and circulated a Sexual Abuse Policy (Sexual Harassment, Sexual Exploitation, Pastoral Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse) for the whole of the church in 1993, revised in 1998, 2007, 2011 and again in 2016.

The policy is based on the following beliefs:

  • that human sexuality is a gift from God to be respected, valued and celebrated;
  • that power and authority is vested in leadership (both lay and clergy) to be exercised with the highest ethical and moral standards

B.C. Conference has a brochure for "Sexual Abuse Prevention and Response In the Church" (updated November 2013)
